Greetings from the United States of America. I wonder if you would be interested in helping us explore the history of the ARDIS surname in Italy?

It is said that my great-great-great-grandfather William ARDIS came from “Persia”… or possibly from “Switzerland.” I believe this idea may be a mistake and that he really came from Pescia, Italy. From “Persia” he is said to have gone to Perth, Scotland UK in the late- 1700s… then to Armagh, Northern Ireland UK. Many of his children then went to Michigan, USA after 1852.

I believe the ARDIS surname originated in Scotland… having come from Alardyce, Allardyce, Allerdice, Ardes… and finally to ARDIS. I cannot account for William being in Italy, but I do know that there is a history in the family of farmers, traders, and missionaries. Many of William’s descendants were strong adherents to the Presbyterian religion. This is Scotland’s “reformed” religion and we know of ties to the “Dutch Reformed” religion. Perhaps there was a tie with your own “Waldensian” Protestant religion in Italy. This is all speculation on my part.

Si dice che il mio gran-gran-gran-nonno William ARDIS è venuto " dalla Persia "... o possibilmente " dalla Svizzera.
