Papers and Speeches

Slim wrote a number of papers, delivered many speeches, and participated in numerous panel discussions over the years. No comprehensive record remains of these endeavors. Slim did not fancy himself a "scholar," but his common-sense approach to all matters made him a trusted advisor in many quarters. He was known as an excellent speaker and writer.

Paper

Evart W. Ardis, "Looking for the Look of Leadership," 12/6/61.

The only known copy is in the University of Illinois Archives, Records Series 41/1/40. This is apparently part of the records of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (1951-65), although the notation is made that this is NOT a paper presented to NASPA. This paper must have originated elsewhere, but was apparently of interest to someone at this professional association of which Slim was a member, and possibly an officer at some point. And, it was thrown into the records box right next to a copy of "Social Dynamite in Our Large Cities," 10/61, by James B. Conant, philosopher, former ambassador, social observer, and president of Harvard. Slim would be glad to know he is with his friend Jim... if not for eternity, at least until some librarian needs the space.

NOTE: If you know of, or have copies of any of Slim's other writings, we would appreciate a copy or at least the bibliographic information associated with them.
