Welcome to the John William ARDIS Sept

-- Barbara Ardis Coker, Sumter County, South Carolina USA

INTRODUCTION

My interest in genealogy dates back to 1966. My husband and I were anticipating the birth of our first child and were searching for a meaningful name. It seemed natural to turn to my maternal grandmother, Clara Ethel Hodge Ardis, who knew the history of everyone in the family and enjoyed sharing with those who would listen.

In those days I believed our Ardis family to be very small; however, as the research continued beyond the naming of our daughter, I was surprised to learn how many families of Sumter and Clarendon counties were related.

The more I have learned over the years, the more I have wanted to share this information with others... and to have them share with me. For better or for worse, in times of war and of peace, from the 1700's in the rural Black River area, to the horse 'n buggy days of the early 1900's, and even now... our ARDIS Family history goes on!
